To Live Is To Play Metallica

excuse me while I tend to how I feel

I'm actually glad that I hadn't heard of and didn't become a Metallica fan till after  ...And Justice For All.    I've read alot of Books on Metallica, surfed the net for
info, listened to other peoples opinions,  and it seems that there are alot of people out there that wish that Metallica had of stuck with Kill 'em all, Ride the Lightning,
and or Master of Puppets sound.   People go on and on about how Metallica lost the plot after The Black Album.  Some of these people still like Metallica and listen to
their music, but don't appreciate any album after ...And Justice For All.   I am happy to say that I appreciate their diversity and versatility as a Heavy Metal band.
I have never read anywhere that Metallica (Lars or James) set out to be any particular type of band.  Before Metallica were formed, Lars followed bands that he was interested
in, watched them, studied them.  In the meantime James was already in a band(s) where he could show his particular musical interests.  And Kirk for that matter.  Does anyone
start a band with a certain type of music in mind?  Doesn't your particular taste in a certain genre just come naturally?

I personally don't like the S&M album.  But I'm not upset with Metallica for it.  I can still remember when that album was being made, when they were talking about making it.
I was disgusted, I won't deny that.  But I never turned my back on Metallica.  There are alot of Big, Well Known Bands that have tried the Orchestra thing.  Where they go through
a phase if you like, or maybe it's boredom, or maybe they just wanna try something different.   Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  So it's not unusual,  and I don't
appreciate any of them doing it, hahahahahaha...  I do however appreciate that Metallica try different things, and am glad that they do.  We all get bored with the same thing over
and over again, whether we're the one's producing it, listening to it, or watching it.  To be so multi-talented and expressive in so many ways is very creative.  I must admit if
Metallica had of decided to stick with the Orchestra, and kept producing albums like that, I would have eventually given up on them.  I will gladly say that I absolutely love
Kill 'em all, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.   Those first three albums are masterpieces.  And yeah, Kill 'em all is very thrashy, they sound so different, and I
love Phantom Lord!   Ride the Lightning is special for me, I love Fade to Black.   Master of Puppets sounds like something so brilliant and amazing is about to start as soon
as it starts, it's awesome!!!  Overall I love that Cliff Burton is on those albums, I absolutely love Anesthesia, The Call of Ktulu and Orion.  I also love To Live is To Die,
which by the way I have read that it is James voice that says the lyrics on the album.

If Metallica kept producing the same type of music with every song and every album they would have become stale, monotonous, and would now have been apart of history since the end of Master of Puppets, and we wouldn't have them anymore...   Does any band start out with making music that is solely for the fans, fans that they don't have yet?  Metallica have made it quite clear that they please themselves.  As it happens,  what they produce, a hell of alot of people can relate to, and enjoy.  With the force of Lars, and the honesty of James, and the altogether passion of Metallica, they are still able to produce and record music for anyone willing to listen (although a little slow at the mo :-D)

My first Metallica album was ...And Justice For All, my second one was The Black Album.  At the time, I didn't know much about Metallica and was, just a fan. In later times to
come I watched Live Shit Binge and Purge, then I fell in love with Metallica. I was hooked!  I had the Metallica Bug! I needed more! I needed to know everything there was to know about this Band. I searched the Internet and local Book Stores. The more I read the more I fell in love. For me it's not just about their music, it's about the Band, the actual members of the Band, what they believe in, what they write about and how they perform it, what they stand for, the way they perform on stage, what they look like, who they are as people, how they sound, and of course that gorgeous sexy James Hetfield, hahahaha sorry I had to add that, eh girls :-)  One of the things that stands out for me about Metallica is that they take no shit from anyone, and do things their way. (unfortunately this means that we are left waiting for new albums at long lengths of time)

For a Band that was supposed to have sold out, gone commercial, whatever, radio stations in Australia do not regularly play Metallica's music, no matter what Metallica bring out. Every chance I get, through surveys and competitions, I hound the radio stations about playing Metallica. I must be getting through somehow coz they've actually mentioned Metallica's name hahahaha... So if Metallica are not heavy metal anymore, then all the radio stations should be playing Metallica, right? Metallica were always classed as taboo and still are! Again, here in Australia they won't even mention Metallica on tv unless it's to do with something sinister, so therefore they are still classed as forbidden, meaning they haven't changed!

I love every single song on every album Metallica have made except S&M. I can still remember when that album was being made how disgusted I was. But did I turn my back on Metallica? No! Did/Do I hang shit on those songs, the album and/or Metallica? No! Do I think Metallica sold out? No! And for the record, yes I have listened to those songs. I have no problems with Symphony Orchestra's, I just don't want Metallica mixed with them :-) I don't like the album, I won't buy it, I won't listen to it, but I moved on. Do I need to go on about it? No! I am a Heavy Metal fan, and prefer Heavy Metal music, but I am not so closed minded that I can't appreciate any other type of music, and I don't recall reading anywhere that Metallica said that they are any particular type of Band, they play what comes to them naturally.

The way I see it, if you think Metallica sold out, then for you it's not about the Band, it's only about the music. So Metallica haven't sold out have they, they just don't play the sort of music you're interested in. So if you don't like what Metallica's producing, don't listen to it, move on.  Metallica are the only band for me where except for only one album, (as I've already stated) I love every song and album they've ever made.  I am an ultimate Led Zeppelin fan, and will admit that I don't actually like every song that they've made...   I would rather be able to appreciate everything Metallica have made, and keep an open mind, than to hang shit on them and possibly not have them in my life.

Metallica is my religion

MAMA SAID

One of my favourite songs of Metallica is from the album 'Load' - 'Mama Said'  Right from when James starts with '1,2,3,4..1,2' this song is the most beautiful song James Hetfield has written.  His heart and soul is in this song.  I have to admit, it is only after you know the story behind the song that you can really appreciate it.  You get a real sense of how James must have been feeling as He sat by himself strumming his guitar.  There is something so beautiful about a man that usually sings with such power, sing a song filled with such sadness.  I would give anything to have James sing this song to me, so that I can tell him personally how beatiful this song is, hug him, and tell him I understand.

Loverman

When it comes to songs that Metallica have covered, my number 1 favourite is 'Loverman'.  I can safely say that 'Loverman' is my favourite song off the 'Garage Inc.' album.  'Loverman' shows off how aggressively sexy James Hetfield's voice can really sound.  This song was made for James Hetfield!  James vocals make this song even more eerie than it already was, but in a sexy way.  Yes I have heard the original version by Nick Cave, and it is not sexy at all, it is a very strange song.  Metallica not only give this song a Heavy Metal sound, but add alot of creepy, wanting, haunting feel to it, which makes it perfect.  It's spine tingling!  As you listen to James sing the lyrics of this song, you want the devil waiting for you, laying beside you.  As the song builds, you want to surrender to it.  Then just when you think it's over, James comes back with a very loud, demanding, 'LOVERMAN'   James Hetfield is Loverman, he is my devil waiting outside my door, how much longer?

Loverman has been described as - Convulsive Erotic Misery

I think this song is Dripping with Sex, Exudes Sex

Symphony & Metallica

I hate this Album.  Sorry guys but I believe that all of MetallicA's songs were perfect without adding an Orchestra to them.  I understand that MetallicA like to experiment with their music, and like to try new things.  I'm also aware of how boring it can get, or would get if MetallicA kept to the same type of stuff all the time.  But S&M is one album I just can't and won't listen to.  I do own a copy of this Album, and I have listened to it, hoping to hear whatever other fans of this album can hear.  I just don't like it.  Every song that they redid for this album was ruined.  There are only two songs on this album that I can appreciate and that is No Leaf Clover and Human.  These two songs were produced for this album, so there is no other version to compare them to, they are as they were from their birth.  They're actually two very good songs.  I have nothing against Classical music, or Orchestra's, I actually own a few CD's of classical music.  There are probably some very good classical metal albums out there too, but it's not my thing.  I just don't think MetallicA should have redone any of their songs with an Orchestra.  If they had of produced a whole new album with new songs for the experience, that would be a whole different thing.  Then I could have appreciated the new album the same way I have appreciated every other new album.  I appreciate and understand that MetallicA wanted to do this and I respect that, but I don't have to like it :-)

St.Anger

Have been listening to St.Anger alot lately, hadn't listened to it for a while, and yes I do love this album.  But this time I've been listening to it as I fall asleep at night.  It's interesting coz for the first time I've noticed how angry James actually sounds in all of the songs on this album.  There really is Anger and Frustration.  You can hear and you can feel it.  It's a totally different album to their other's and I love it.

The Unforgiven

Tribe Films

Music Video Concept by Matt Mahrin August 2nd, 1991

A boy emerges, he has no parents, but many, too many seem to watch over him.  He remains small although those around him become tall and prosper.  The laws and limits seem to keep him small.  He discovers an unknown place where he escapes his oppressive world.  It is a windowless stone room with only a hole with no door that leads only back to this world he wants no part of.  He comes here to be alone and to be himself, but he knows people will soon find him and his secret will be lost.  He must think.  He begins to claw at the stone wall.  Tireless and full of purpose as he breaks the stone bit by bit, he is growing older.  He is chiseling a square shape from the wall.  Just as the square is finished, he is now a very old man.  With his last strength he pulls the square rock from the wall and lowers it onto his back.  He struggles the short distance across the empty room to the hole that leads to his unwanted world.  He sets the stone down within the hole and as he pushes it into place there appears a lock on the door.  He reaches into his pocket, drasw out a key and locks the door.  he walks back to the hole left by the now chiseled door and sees now there is a window with just a simple, clean sky.  He reaches out the window and, opening his hand, drops the key that locks out the world of the unforgiven.  The old man returns to the center of the room and lays down to sleep forever.

Death Magnetic

How awesome, how mad is this album!  It has been a bloody long time since their last album, and this is the first album with Rob Trujillo.  But what an amazing album!  It took me 3 times to listen to Cyanide and The Day That Never Comes before I fell inlove with both songs.  My Apocalypse was straight off the bat.  As soon as I first listened to the entire album all I could do was sit there with a huge grin on my face.  This album is totally awesome!  When I first heard that one of the tracks was called The Unforgiven III I couldn't help but wonder what this song especially was going to sound like.  I think it's awesome that James has used his piano skills.  The lyrics to this song truly are beautiful.  I haven't fallen inlove with it yet, but it is growing on me.  The instrumental 'Suicide & Redemption'  which goes for nearly 10min if you don't mind, is going to need alot of growing on me, there's alot of awesome guitar work in there, but over all I'm going to need a while to really appreciate it.  It reminds me of Satriani...   My favourite song, for the moment I guess I should add, is The Day That Never Comes.  I think All Nightmare Long is more like heavy rock metal.  This album truly was worth waiting for.  It really is different, and I guess too I can finally start to appreciate Rob.  Whatever it was that inspired this album, it is awesome.  To see Metallica play this album live will be the ultimate ecstasy!!!

I have fallen in love with All Nightmare Long this is my favourite song off this album, then Broken, Beat & Scarred.  My next favourite is The End Of The Line where James sings the sexiest line ever 'the slave becomes the master' when he draws out that last word I can barely keep myself from exploding.  I am now obsessed with this album and listen to it everyday as I fall asleep.  I have 3 copies.  The Unforgiven III is fast growing on me, and the words to this song are starting to play in my head over and over, and making me want to take James in my arms even more.  Every time I hear the start of  The Day That Never Comes I am overwhelmed about how beautiful this song really is.

The Judas Kiss reminds me of Slayer, which I find very interesting.  Cyanide and My Apocalypse need to bring me to their attention now, coz they've sort of taken a back seat to my favourites.  But overall I love Death Magnetic to pieces.   Metallica this really is a fucking awesome album!

Dear Metclub

So Fucking What!     Free Speech For The Dumb     Eye of the Beholder     Metal Up Your Ass     King Nothing    ...And Justice For All

If metclub is a representation of metallica then metallica are being misrepresented.  Metallica fans know that metallica use foul language, and we've all heard them sing So What! which is full of extremely rude sexual references.  You are not allowed to use sexual references in the forums of metclub.  How fucking contradictive and hyprocritical is that?  What a load of pathetic wanne be gods.  Does everyone actually read the rules and regulations of a forum before they join it?  I don't think so.  But why would you think that you cannot use sexual references in the forums of a metallica fansite, puhleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze, it is so fucking pathetic.  metclub have this section on your profile page where you can add 'about me' info, I did not intentionally insult them,  it was meant to be a simple play on words, a joke, a laugh, a tongue in cheek, a sense of humour, metallica have that right?

For instance, do you think this is offensive:

If MetallicA were food, I'd stuff my face silly.
If James Hetfield was a lolly pop I'd suck it 24/7
If MetallicA were alcohol, I'd be drunk all day.
If MetallicA was a country, I'd live in it.
If James Hetfield was wrapping paper I'd be wrapped 24/7
If MetallicA were a religion, I would join and start going to church.
If MetallicA was a bed, I'd sleep in it forever.
If MetallicA were clothes, I'd wear as many as I can.
If James Hetfield was milk I'd bathe in it 24/7
If MetallicA was a colour, my house would be that colour.
If MetallicA was a bad word, then I'd swear nonstop.
If MetallicA was a car, I'd drive it.
If James Hetfield was chocolate I'd allow myself a migraine 24/7
If MetallicA was a flower, I'd have a field full of them.
If MetallicA became President/Prime Minister, I'd vote for them.
If MetallicA turned into water, I'd drown myself in it.
If MetallicA was sex I'd fuck all day

I was suspended for 14 days for putting the above content in my 'about me' space on my profile page on metclub.  Prior to the suspension they my 'about me' content kept disappearing, so I kept putting it back.  After months of doing this, I decided to send metclub an email asking why my contents kept disappearing, 'because it wasn't appropriate' they replied.  So I then asked how that makes sense when metallica use that sort of language all the time.  They never answered the question, just kept fobbing me off with their 'I am god and you will listen to what I tell you to do' attitude.  Then one day I just couldn't get into my account.  If you're going to punish someone and not tell them what you are punishing them for, then how do you expect them to behave the way you want them to?  metclub is a load of pathetic fucks.
